How long can a breast prosthesis last?
Breast prosthesis are incredibly resilient and are designed to stand up to the normal everyday demands placed upon them. If cared for properly and correctly, your breast forms should last between 1-2 years. However, take care not to puncture your breast prosthesis with sharp objects, such as pins, pet claws and etc; repair is not possible. The use of talcum powder, lotions, oils, perfumes should not be used on or around breast form and should be avoided.
To ensure your breast form remain in good condition, you should wash it daily after each use and when not being worn stored in mesh bag, box or cradle provided, as this will protect and also help maintain its shape.
Many women find that wearing a prosthesis is a comfortable and natural looking way to restore symmetry following a mastectomy or surgery or to just enhance what you already have. With proper care and maintenance, a prosthesis will provide many years of service and use.
Prosthesis and the summer months.
Some women find that they sweat a lot during the summer months. Is there any way to make wearing a breast prosthesis cooler in warm weather? Yes! Wearing the breast prosthesis inside the bra pocket keeps the prosthesis off the skin. This creates more ventilation to evaporate perspiration. Some women claim that a lighter weight prosthesis feels cooler. It is very important to wear a bra that supports the breast prosthesis and keeps them from resting on the abdomen, as constant moisture in this area can create skin irritation.
